Father of the Nation-Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the father of our nation. He was born on 17th March, 1920 in a middle class family at Tungipara in Gopalganj district. His father’s name is Sheikh Lutfur Rahman and mother’s name is Sayera Khatun. His life is the saga of a great leader. Under his heroic command, Bangladesh became independent on 16th December, 1971 against the Pakistan. He was declared the 'Father of the Nation' on 3 March 1971 by A S M Abdur Rab. He was a true democrat. He struggled for securing justice and fair play for the Bengalees till his death. He delivered his famous speech on 7th March, 1971. He declared independence of Bangladesh in the early hours of 26 March 1971. He was assassinated by a group of anti-liberation reactionary forces on 15 August 1975, along with 23 family members and close associates.
